Academy Award-winning director Martin Scorsese will direct the Life Is A Carnival: A Musical Celebration Of Robbie Robertson concert event for a future film release.
Scorsese directed The Last Waltz about Robbie and The Band’s 1976 farewell concert, recognized as one of the greatest concert films ever made. In 2019, the film was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the U.S. National Film Registry for its cultural significance.
Thereafter, Scorsese and Robertson formed a lifelong bond, with Robertson collaborating as a composer, music supervisor, and music producer on numerous acclaimed Scorsese films, including Raging Bull, The King of Comedy, The Color of Money, Casino, Gangs of New York, The Departed, Shutter Island, The Wolf of Wall Street, Silence, The Irishman, and most recently Killers of the Flower Moon.
The all-star house band for Life Is A Carnival: A Musical Celebration Of Robbie Robertson features Ryan Bingham, Jamey Johnson, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers), Don Was, John Medeski, Dave Malone, Terence Higgins, Cyril Neville, Mark Mullins & The Levee Horns. The house band joins the previously announced Trey Anastasio, Eric Church, Eric Clapton, Warren Haynes, Bruce Hornsby, Jim James, Daniel Lanois, Taj Mahal, Van Morrison, Margo Price, Robert Randolph, Nathaniel Rateliff, Allison Russell, Mavis Staples, Bobby Weir, and Lucinda Williams.
Final tickets for this once-in-a-lifetime concert event on Thursday, October 17, 2024, at the Kia Forum have been released and are now available.
Life Is a Carnival: A Musical Celebration of Robbie Robertson will feature artists performing a diverse range of Robertson’s most beloved songs, from his solo work to classic tracks from The Band.
Executive Producers are Martin Scorsese, Jared Levine, and Keith Wortman. Live Nation shall serve as the event promoter. A portion of the proceeds from the concert event shall be donated to The Woodland Cultural Centre that funds and operates a range of arts, history, and education programs on the Sixth Nations Reserve in Canada.
Immediately following the show, the All-Star Band hits the road, with Ryan Bingham, Jamey Johnson, Mike Campbell and Benmont Tench (Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers), Don Was, John Medeski, Dave Malone, Terence Higgins, Cyril Neville, Mark Mullins & The Levee Horns (featuring the original horn arrangements of Allen Toussaint). Additionally, Lukas Nelson will be joining the tour for three shows in Colorado. The multi-city tour kicks off at the Warfield in San Francisco, CA, on October 19 and continues through November 16, 2024, making stops at historic venues throughout the U.S. and Canada.
