‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ Cuts Back Shows

In yet another sign of cost-cutting in late night, NBC is whittling “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” down to four nights a week.

CBS’ “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” ABC’s “Jimmy Kimmel Live,” and Comedy Central’s “The Daily Show” were earlier cut back to four nights.

Earlier this year, Fallon extended his deal with NBC to continue hosting through 2028. However, even the late night hosts admit that the format is a dying art. The multitude of news outlets online and the rise of social media clips make waiting for a final summation of the day an artifact of a bygone era.

NBC has not given an official reason for the cut.
