Slip.stream Buys Independent Hip-Hop Label Commission Music

Music platform Slip.stream has acquired Commission Music from record industry veteran Anthony Martini for an undisclosed sum. The independent hip-hop label was originally formed in 2015 and established itself as a force to be reckoned with, breaking acts like Lil Dicky, IDK, and MadeinTYO during its rise to a top 10 urban label according to Mediabase chart share. Martini will join Slip.stream’s board to help guide the development of the label.

The move establishes Slip.stream Records as a first of its kind creator-driven music label. A formidable player from day one, the immediate infusion of talent from their current roster of rising acts includes Big Havi and platinum producer Powers Pleasant, as well as cultural icons DJ Envy and DJ Holiday.

The label aligns with the greater platform’s mission of breaking down the barriers between content creators and musicians by making their released music available for use in all creator platforms.  “New technology has completely changed the way fans consume content. Not only do they want to listen to music, they want to USE it. Slip.stream’s forward thinking model eliminates the walls between creators and musicians. I believe this is the most powerful way to break new music. They get it, period.” says Martini.

The label will utilize its partnership with Vydia to distribute Slip.stream Records’ releases to all DSPs (Spotify, Apple Music, etc). The releases will also be available on their creator music platform, putting the music in the hands of tens of thousands of gamers, video creators, and streamers the same day the songs are released to DSPs.  “We think Slip.stream is onto something big, which is why we wanted to be their distribution partner.  We believe this is where the industry is heading and we want to be part of the team leading the charge,” said Roy LaManna, CEO & co-founder Vydia.

“It’s clear that the more an artist’s songs are used in content, the more streams and revenue it generates. Creating friction around using music in the creator universe just doesn’t make sense,” said Co-CEO Dan Demole.  “There’s an entire audience of creators who use music and don’t just listen to it. We recognize this as one of the major shifts happening in the music marketplace. We’re actively building new tools and new revenue streams so artists can grow their brand, their fanbase, and they’re revenue.” added Co-CEO David Carson.

Releases for the label include Big Havi’s EP with TikTok star producer KyleYouMadeThat later this summer and the sophomore album from Platinum Producer Powers Pleasant with features from $NOT, Joey Bada$$, Bas, Denzel Curry, and Princess Nokia in the fall.
